RiverWorks Partners with GIS Experts at IAGT to Extend RRAS Capabilities
RiverWorks is working closely with the Institute for the Application of Geospatial Technology (IAGT) to extend the capability of RRAS for more robust data storage, retrieval, querying and viewing. The new RRAS extensions will allow for a web-accessible, centralized database of river, stream and wetland data. RiverWorks and IAGT plan to work closely with regulatory agencies, cities, counties, and and others to assist with data collection, sharing, comparison, analysis, interpretation and viewing with the goal of greater standardization of water resource assessment, monitoring and inventorying processes. IAGT is a non-profit corporation which focuses on putting geospatial technologies to practical use. IAGT develops a range of decision support and analysis tools that are designed to assist researchers, community stakeholders and policy makers by better informing the decision-making process with science. |
Researchers Challenge Water Flow Model
New York Times - Decades ago, when geologists were developing ideas about how water typically flows across land, many of them studied the streams of the Mid-Atlantic States, concluding that they naturally move in ribbon like channels cut through silty banks. Recap - EC08 in Orlando, Fla. - - In February RiverWorks sponsored one of the CyberCafes at International Erosion Control Association's EC08 in Orlando. With the high cost of wireless access, the CyberCafe computer terminals continue to be a much-needed service. RiverWorks also exhibited at the Expo, showcasing RiverWorks Rapid Assessment System (RRAS). It's clear that the acceptance and use of mobile technologies for data collection is on the rise. This year at EC08 a mobile data collector was used by many of the exhibitors to scan the badges of attendees for instant contact information. Apparently the business card is on its way out! RiverWorks CEO Michael Sprague serves as IECA's Technical Committee Chair for Stream Restoration and also presented a new, half-day technical session titled, "State of the Art Tools for Restoring Watersheds - Analysis, Mapping, Modeling, Remote Sensing and More." For more information on EC08 stats, EC09 call for proposals, or IECA, visit IECA's website at www.ieca.org |
